Community Rules, Etiquette, and Privacy Policies

Thank you for being part of the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) online community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, some basic guidelines have been established for participation.

By joining and using this community, visitors agree that they have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. Visitors also agree to limit discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is an excellent medium through which to solicit the advice of peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in ongoing conversations. Questions should be directed to the NETA Member Services department via the Contact Us link on this site.

Please take a moment to become acquainted with these important policies. Any questions can be addressed by contacting the NETA office. In order to maintain an environment that encourages civil and productive dialogue, NETA reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violates these policies or engages in any other misconduct, misuse of or damage to the NETA online community.

Forum Rules

  • Visitors shall not use this community for any unlawful purposes or to further any illegal activity. By using this community, visitors agree to be bound by all applicable laws governing online conduct and content.
  • Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there is no such thing as a stupid question.
  • Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that a visitor may provide. If a visitor has found a product or service helpful, please share the experience with the group in a respectful way.
  • Use caution when discussing products. NETA reserves the right to take action if trademark or copyright violations are posted on this forum. Furthermore, information taken directly from NETA Handbooks, ANSI/NETA Standards, or NETA certification exams shall not be shared with others.
    • Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is publicly available and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Guidelines for such conduct include: Visitors shall not engage in targeted harassment of other forum members, nor shall they encourage others to do so.
    • Visitors shall not post sexual content, send sexually explicit messages or images to another forum member, or otherwise engage in sexual misconduct.
    • Visitors shall  not harass, threaten, or incite violence against any individual or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.
    • Visitors shall not upload hateful images, symbols, or documents to community libraries. Likewise, visitors shall not upload sexual images or documents to community libraries.
  • When posting items in the NETA collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. If the visitor wishes to re-use or share the item outside of this community, please contact the original owner of the item to obtain permission.
  • Post messages or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."

Discussion Group Etiquette

  • Visitors should state concisely and clearly the topic of comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to their posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
  • Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.
  • Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, visitors should use the web interface to change settings or to remove themselves from a list. If changing email addresses, visitors do not need to remove themselves from the list and rejoin under a new email address. Simply change the settings.

Cookies

What are cookies?

A cookie is a text file containing small amounts of information which a server downloads to a visitor’s personal computer (PC) or mobile device when they visit a website. The server then sends a cookie back to the originating website each time the visitor subsequently visits it, or if they visit another website which recognizes that cookie.

Why do websites use cookies?

Web pages have no memory. If a visitor is surfing from page to page within a website, they will not be recognized as the same user across pages. Cookies enable a browser to be recognized by the website. So cookies are mainly used to remember the choices a visitor has made – choices such as the preferred language and currency used. They will also make sure the visitor is recognized when returning to a website.

Do all cookies do the same thing?

No, there are different types of cookies and different ways of using them. Cookies can be categorized according to their function, their lifespan and according to who places them on a website.

How does NETA use cookies?

  • Functional cookies: NETA also uses functional cookies to remember visitors’ preferences and to help them use the website efficiently and effectively, for example by remembering a visitor’s preferred currency and language viewed earlier. These functional cookies are not strictly necessary for the functioning of our website, but they add functionality and enhance the user experience.
  • Analytics cookies: These cookies are used to gain insight into how visitors use the NETA website, to find out what works and what does not, to optimize and improve the NETA website and to ensure it continues to be interesting and relevant. The data gathered includes which web pages visitors have viewed, which referring/exit pages they have entered and left from, which platform type used, date and time stamp information and details such as the number of clicks made on a given page, mouse movements and scrolling activity, the search words used and the text typed while using our website. Analytics cookies are also used as part of NETA’s online advertising campaigns to learn how users interact with the website after they have been shown an online advertisement, which may include advertisements on third-party websites. NETA will not know the identity of the visitor, and only obtains anonymous data.
