Leveraging the Power of IECĀ® 61850 to Replace Auxiliary Devices

Recent Smart Grid activity is being stimulated by the federal government and through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. ARRA specifically calls out $4.5B for Smart Grid and other provisions in the act can apply to Smart Grid projects. Also, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), through the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, has been charged with “primary responsibility to coordinate development of a framework that includes protocols and model standards for information management to achieve interoperability of smart grid devices and systems.”
